Faculty Status

In a noteworthy advancement for higher education in Uganda, the MUBS Arua regional campus, which was established in 2006 to cater      to the educational needs of the West Nile and North-Western Uganda region, has officially been elevated to the status of a faculty within      the Makerere University Business School (MUBS). Previously, this campus functioned under a broader regional campus framework,              providing a variety of educational programs, including certificates, diploma, bachelor’s, and postgraduate courses.

This elevation to a faculty status marks a significant transition, granting the Arua campus greater academic autonomy, an upgraded administrative structure, and a direct voice in MUBS’s central governance. This development is part of MUBS’s broader strategic initiative to enhance the accessibility and quality of business education across Uganda and aligns with similar upgrades that have occurred at other campuses, such as those in Mbarara and Jinja.

As a fully-fledged faculty, the Arua campus will benefit from a range of new resources and structural improvements. It will feature dedicated leadership, including its own Dean or Head, which allows for tailored oversight of academic and administrative activities. Additionally, the campus will receive a specific budget allocated exclusively for its faculty needs, enhancing its ability to fulfill its academic mission. The curriculum will be customized and developed by specialized departmental staff who are attuned to the regional context, ensuring that the courses offered are relevant and impactful.

This new status also empowers the Arua campus to broaden its academic offerings, enabling it to introduce new programs that address the needs of the local community and the business environment. Moreover, faculty members will have the opportunity to engage in targeted research projects that respond to both local and national challenges. This active engagement not only contributes to academic scholarship but also strengthens partnerships with local industries and the community at large.

Ultimately, while the Arua campus enhances its capabilities and reach, it will still play a vital role in contributing to MUBS’s overarching mission of fostering professional development, entrepreneurship, and leadership throughout the region, thereby supporting the growth and sustainability of the local economy and society as a whole.
